This is a collection of 100 horror stories by 100 authors and each is only 100 words long. As with any collection, there were stories that ranged from I really liked to those that I wished I had never seen.Horror, like humor, can be told in long drawn out stories or in short snippets that are basically the set up and payoff. It can be quite challenging to present a while scenario in such a small space, especially if you want to add that twist at the end. Often the twist reveals itself too soon. But like s good punchline, if it is timed perfectly, it becomes a gem that you will remember for a long time.
It was interesting to see how many authors hit upon the same subject. For example, there are quite a few monster under the bed stories. I also found it amusing that the table of contents took up more room than any story, and quite frequently the author notes were longer than their stories. I really wish the author notes were grouped with the story since it makes it easier to connect them that way. With the notes being separate, I had to keep checking back to see which story they wrote.
I would rate this collection as 3.5 stars. I found this as a free download.

100 Horrors Tales of Horror in the Blink of an Eye Kevin G Bufton 9781469975283 Books Reviews
It's hard enough telling a story when you have an infinite number of words to use, now imagine having to tell a horror story in just 100 words. It sounds tough but each author I feel managed to do an awesome job! I think any horror fan would love this collection.
100 stories of 100 words or less. Talk about a fast read. I give this book five stars just for the creativeness of the book. How quickly can you prove your talents. Some stories are gems. Some I still haven't figured out. Some I wish were under fifty words. It was exciting to see if the authors could pull it off or not. I wrote three of these books myself after reading this one.
Reading this entire book, front-to-back, takes probably half an hour (maybe less). Of the 100 paragraph-length entries, about 10 are really good. So you're talking about 27 minutes' worth of mediocre reading and 3 minutes' worth of really good reading.
Keep that in mind when deciding whether to spend money on this item. I would say it's worth it if you can get it for the cost of shipping.
It was a good idea but limiting the stories to 1,000 words would probably have worked much better, while still keeping a quick pace. Even a 500-word limit would have let the authors do a little plot development, instead of forcing them to go for 100% shock value.
An amazingly fast, un-put-downable little tome, "100 Horrors" gives you flash after flash of strikingly good horror setups, all of which are no more than a page and a half in length, some even less. You have to admire the discipline of it. These tales are extremely terse and to the point, yet manage to create atmosphere almost instantly. Words are never minced, though the victims sometimes are.
Tom Hanks as Forest Gump said "Life is like a box of chocolates... you never know what you're gonna get." So too is this collection of 100 (100 word) short stories.
Reach inside. First pull out one story that as you take a nibble it tastes so good you long to hold it in your mouth and savor the flavor; yet as it always does it melts away and is gone. Take another and it may be bitter. You long to spit it out, but politeness says no so you quickly swallow and reach for another to get rid of that bad taste. The story that follows may be so sweet you flinch and shudder from the mere taste of it. The next may be horrifyingly awful (or just horrifying), but there is another to bite into that may be more to your taste.
Before you know it the box is gone and all you have left are the sweet overall memories of that box of candy and in this case this collection of stories. Some may be to your taste, others not, but in the end I bet you'd buy another box tomorrow...
As I am a great lover of short fiction, this collection drew my attention, however, although some of them were obviously very cleverly done I found that most of them were really too short. I understand that the authors had to stick to a number of words, but this clearly was more important than a good story. I think the collection was more to show off what can be done in a short number of words, than to entertain people with a good story. I'm an avid reader of horror stories, so I'm well known with blood and gore, but in a lot of the stories the emphasis was on just that. In a (slighty) longer story there can be a buildup to a bloody scene, but taken something like that on its own without any context is really not to my liking.
What a great plan, boil the horror story down to 100 words or less, lather, rinse, and repeat 100 times. Many of these were scarier than I expected. Several had room for a twist, almost made easier by the lack of extraneous information. I did find that with such impact built into so few words, it was easier to read a few and reflect on them rather than trying to plow straight through. Well done, thanks for the ride!
